Hunger Relief

BACKPACK BUDDIES

Backpack Buddies is a food program for at-risk kids at North Marion Primary School. Based on a national model, young people who receive free or reduced-price lunches are provided two complete heat-and-eat meals each weekend to ensure they eat when free lunches are not available. CLC partners with other faith communities and the Aurora American Legion Auxiliary to provide this service, which feeds more than 50 children each weekend through the school year. CLC volunteers purchase, assemble and deliver meals. Our congregation also financially supports the program with its annual dessert auction at the church picnic and helps raise funds at the annual Aurora “Pancakepalooza” each winter.

JUBILEE FOOD PANTRY

Our congregation donates almost one ton of nonperishable food to local food banks each year. The primary recipient of our donations is the Jubilee Food Pantry in Hubbard, where nonperishable food is delivered and a meal is served once a month by congregational volunteers.

A donation station is available at the front door of the church. Please feel free to drop off nonperishable food items during church hours.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING

Our youth lead our congregational participation in the national Souper Bowl of Caring initiative, taking a special collection of cash and food on the day of the big football game.
